My Role
- User research
- Concept ideation
- User flows
- Art Direction
The Approach
Heuristic Evaluation
I conducted a heuristic evaluation on the old version of the Live Casino mobile website, creating a list of usability problems of the interface with references to usability principles that were violated by the design.
The most crucial usability issues were:
- Tiny tappable areas
- Content that was difficult to scan
- Lack of basic visual indicators, like affordances and signifiers, to make certain items or possible interactions stand out from the noise.
- Poor navigation
- Information overload
Survey
During the discovery phase, further feedback was gathered from existing players using an on-site online survey.
To help us meet players' expectations and make better design decisions, fundamental questions related to the primary user journeys were asked.
Among the feedback we collected, we discovered:
- A quick preview of live tables was one of the most desirable features.
- Users expected to access quick deposits while they were playing a game.
- Adding a dealer or table to favourites was one of the most popular features that our customers asked for.
- Responders wanted to check the latest few Roulette numbers and Blackjack dealers’ hands to choose the right table.
User Flows
To better understand the path users followed to achieve their main goals while using our current mobile website, a series of key user flows were create.
The user flows helped us reflect on the flow, communicate it with the team and stakeholders and collect feedback. The user flows also allowed us to compare alternatives, as well as evaluate and test them with real users before proceeding.
Sketches
Sketches were put together to quickly explore the first concepts, we created many low-fidelity sketches during the first phase that helped facilitate a mutual understanding among the UX team and stakeholders.
Wireframe Usability Testing
A series of low-fidelity wireframes were developed in Axure to validate the design of new product features through usability testing (remote unmoderated testing on whatusersdo).
During several iterations, we found out that:
- The star icon to pin a table as a favourite was unsurprisingly the best indicator for our users.
- Giving the option to select a preferred mode between ‘Card view’ and ‘List view’ was highly desirable.
- The majority of our users really appreciated that we provided Touch ID for faster and easier login.
The Final Design
I worked closely with a team of UI designers to art direct the final design which included
a set of micro-interactions that had been planned during the design phase.
Sticking closely to the refreshed Coral branding, most of the screen backgrounds were kept light
and refreshing to balance the heaviness of the blue.
